Welcome to Julia Eats! This blog began as a way for me and my late husband to share our passion for food, wine, and wandering through the world in pursuit of delicious things to eat and drink.
We started writing while living in Washington DC, food crawling through the city. Like everything in life, the blog has evolved over time. In 2016 we moved abroad, spending three amazing years in Valencia, Spain learning about Spanish food, wine, and culture. We followed that with an incredible year in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
2020 brought us back to the United States full time, settling down in my hometown of Frederick, Maryland…one of our favorite places in the world. Traveling has opened my eyes to the rich culture available right here and helped me to see the abundance of Frederick County in a new light.
¡Salud!

Hi Julia,
I discover your page these days and it was great to see that you love Spain and our culture and how write about it. I would like to invite to visite the Northern, even there is less tourism than in the South or in the Mediterranean coast, I am sure you will enjoy it. I am from Leon where we have have good food and wine and recently a craft beer industry growing up. I invite you to discover this part of the country as well.
All the best,
Yolanda

Sound beautiful! We have big plans to explore Northern Spain in the coming year. We’ll be sure to try some Kadabra Craft Beer while we are there.

Jill, When are the best springtime ferias in Valencia?

Springtime? Let’s see…March is completely consumed with Las Fallas. In April we had the Mostra de Vinos y Alimentos de la Comunidad Valenciana, an awesome 5 day festival in the Turia Gardens showcasing the wine and food of Valencia. There was also an Andalusian Fair in April. The dates change each year depending on when Easter falls.

We are looking to plan an extended stay in Valencia around March and April next year. Wanted to include at least one festival. Sounds like we won’t be able to avoid them. 🙂 The Mostra de Vinos y Alimentos sounds right up my amateur alley! Do we know the dates for that yet?

Unfortunately, no, they haven’t released the date yet for 2018. Here is the website so you can keep an eye out for it: https://www.proava.org
